Seed Passport Templates
A standardized seed record template capturing lineage, isolation practices, and survival in cold or humid climates.
Record the source’s name and location—any detail helps trace provenance. Note the cultivar’s known history if available. Include isolation distance used, even if it’s just ‘separated by fence row’—cross-pollination risk shifts with proximity. Note if you bagged some or all inflorescences that season.
Add fields for overwintering results if you saved seeds after a dry, cool winter vs. a damp one. Track germination rate, days to flower, and any unexpected traits in the next generation—like a Yellow Pear seedling with normal leaves. These subtle shifts often reveal hidden acclimation or contamination.
Leave space for seed batch numbers and storage conditions—did you keep them in a paper envelope inside a jar with silica? Include notes on cleaning method (fermentation or dry), drying time, and final moisture feel. Even simple labels like ‘air-dried 21 days, room temp’ help compare with future batches and adjust timing.
