Tabular Data

Connect CSV, JSON, or Excel tables to geometry through drag-and-drop field mapping and timestamps.

Dragging a spreadsheet into 4d.io instantly reveals a visual mapper that aligns columns to geometry attributes—like linking 'start_date' to a model's start time or 'height_change' to a factor. The interface highlights potential matches based on naming conventions, but lets you override with a dropdown of available geometry fields. Once mapped, the system computes a smooth temporal curve for each feature, supporting linear, exponential, or custom curve types.

Time fields can be single-point (timestamp) or range-based (begin/end), and the platform interprets mixed formats—like 'YYYY-MM-DD' versus 'DD/MM/YYYY HH: MM'—using intelligent locale detection. If your dates span multiple formats, it flags them for review instead of forcing a conversion. This flexibility matters when merging datasets from external partners or legacy systems where date consistency cannot be guaranteed.

After mapping, the ingested data appears as editable keyframes in the timeline—each feature can be tweaked individually or batch-adjusted with global offsets. You can preview how a population projection animates across census tracts while simultaneously overlaying infrastructure constraints, ensuring that temporal logic informs spatial decisions without needing custom scripting or intermediate conversions.
