Lag detection
Spot idle zones between sequential work activities to optimize crew scheduling and reduce low-productivity gaps.
Lag detection highlights gaps in your schedule where work is physically possible but paused due to logic or resource constraints. These idle periods often go unnoticed until construction begins, causing delays and rework. In 4D.io, lag appears as shaded intervals between connected activities in your timeline, overlaid on the 3D model to show exactly which zones are underutilized.
Identifying lag helps you reallocate resources or compress sequences, improving overall schedule efficiency. For example, if concrete curing sits untouched for 48 hours, you might adjust formwork scheduling to introduce form removal or inspection earlier. The tool visually flags these lags while preserving logical dependencies, so you can safely compress time without skipping steps.
Use lag detection during preconstruction to stress-test phasing against trade workflows. When multiple trades finish early but await downstream work, lag highlights highlight coordination risks. Adjusting the model in-browser allows you to test how changing a predecessor’s finish date resolves downstream gaps and boosts crew uptime on site.
