Format fidelity

Preserves coordinate reference systems, units, element hierarchies, and attribute schemas on import.

4d.io maintains full fidelity of imported models by retaining the original coordinate reference system and unit scale, avoiding costly misalignments common with less precise tools. Whether importing from BIM (IFC), CAD (DWG/DXF), or scientific datasets, geometry and metadata stay locked in their original spatial context. The platform recognizes and respects embedded CRS definitions, including EPSG codes and custom projections, so locations remain geographically accurate across sessions.

Element hierarchies—such as building stories, structural assemblies, or temporal groupings—are preserved using native schema semantics rather than flattening into generic primitives. This ensures that queries like 'all windows on floor 5 after 2030' return correct and complete results without post-import reconstruction. Attribute schemas are stored in extensible key-value structures that map directly to domain ontologies, supporting domain-specific conventions without forcing generic replacements.

Import processes include validation layers that check for structural completeness and flag missing or ambiguous references while allowing continued editing. The export path mirrors this: users can push changes back into their original tools or feed downstream systems with confidence that units, topology, and semantic meaning remain intact. This fidelity is essential for applications where regulatory compliance or interdisciplinary coordination hinges on precise, auditable data models.
