Remote yurts with solar power, river access, and snowshoe-in entry offer true digital detox without sacrificing basic comfort.
These yurts are positioned in backcountry zones near the Yellowstone River or its tributaries, accessible only by foot or snowshoe over designated trails. Since they’re off-grid, electricity comes from rooftop solar panels charging deep-cycle batteries—sufficient for LED lighting, small devices, and occasionally a low-power fan or pump. Water is often drawn from nearby springs or rivers and treated on-site, with composting toilets and wood stoves supplementing heat needs. Guests receive detailed prep guides covering packing, water safety, and emergency contact protocols.
Winter access requires snowshoes or skis, and routes can be marked by owners or marked with small blazes in snow-free zones. Sites vary in remoteness: some are 1–2 miles from nearest vehicle access, others require short boat crossings in summer. The quiet immersion offers proximity to beaver dens, nesting waterfowl, and elk wintering along river corridors. Because no cell service exists, guests rely on satellite communicators or in-cabin landlines where available.
Design and location follow Leave No Trace principles—yurts sit on gravel pads or elevated platforms to minimize soil impact, and waste is managed via certified systems. Owners often provide emergency shelters and bear canisters, and all sites include detailed orientation maps.
