The barn opens at 8a for breakfast, but the music starts just after 9:30a, when musicians gather near the picnic tables under the big oak tree. It’s not ticketed—just show up with your seat, your coffee, and maybe your own instrument. Fiddles and banjos get out early, and by 10:15a, the circle is usually full, with new players joining mid-song to trade licks. No stage, no separation—just shared space and shared song.
The crowd is a mix of old-timers, visiting songwriters, and tourists who’ve heard about the ritual. Families spread out picnic blankets; kids learn finger positions by watching. Coffee refills are automatic, served in thick ceramic mugs. Don’t rush—settle in for 2+ hours, and watch as the music shifts from tight bluegrass standards to loose, jammed-out interpretations, often with a harmony singer stepping in just to lift a verse.
The barn doesn’t list sets or artists—music happens if enough players gather, and it stops when the crowd thins.
